what's the difference between black metal and death metal again...?

I decided to post here, hoping to get more views than at my xanga site, and possibly work my way towards posting here more often about my boring little life.

First, I had created some things in the last few weeks, of the more recent is this:


This is a splitter/mixer. With this I can run a single instrument through two sets of effects either creating stereo, or making it possible to work in two different pitches with one of the channels working in a different pitch. It's very simple in design, including on/off switches and volume knobs.

This is an edited voice changer. I added inputs and outputs, along with switches making the three different sounds that come default on the device to like... 20 billion. (Maybe more like 12... and some of them sound the same).

In other news, a friend of mine had given me a crapload of metal mp3's. This was a trade of sorts, for a crapload of avant garde stuff I gave him. I got him into Naked City and Fantomas, so he thought I would like this stuff. And I do, honestly. Though, I haven't read up really on the difference between the different metals that are out there. That is in the underground scene, unlike the commercial and semi-commercial stuff such as Metallica (40 methods of the E chord, as I call them), and Slayer.

Currently I'm sampling Cephalic Carnage which is grind of sorts, but with death metal growls. Again, I have to ask, what's the difference between all these styles? I'm sure I'll pick up on it with more listen.

As if the style of music I listen to didn't freak people out enough. In my opinion, this is more 'normal' than the Japanese noise stuff I usually pick up.
